Both flagship soundbars make a serious case for anchoring a premium home theater setup, but they take meaningfully different approaches that are worth understanding before you commit to either ecosystem.
The Sonos Arc Ultra (released October 2024, $999) packs 14 drivers into its enclosure, up from 11 in the original Arc, thanks in part to Sonos's new Sound Motion transducer technology acquired from Mayht. The result is genuinely improved low-end response, which addressed the original Arc's most consistent criticism. It delivers 9.1.4 spatial audio with Dolby Atmos, includes Trueplay room correction (now available on both iOS and Android), and finally adds Bluetooth 5.3 to its connectivity options. If you're already invested in the Sonos ecosystem, pairing it with Era 300s as rear surrounds and a Sub creates one of the most cohesive multiroom systems on the market.
The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar ($899) uses nine speakers, including PhaseGuide technology that projects sound to the sides and two upward-firing drivers for Dolby Atmos height effects. Its standout feature is AI Dialogue Mode, which uses machine learning to isolate and enhance voices without flattening the rest of the mix. This makes it the stronger option if you regularly watch dialogue-heavy content or share walls with sleeping family members. Bose also offers more inclusive streaming support out of the box, with AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, and Spotify Connect all available at launch.
The verdict: Choose the Sonos Arc Ultra if you want the most immersive Atmos performance and plan to build out a full home theater with additional Sonos components over time. Choose the Bose Smart Ultra if dialogue clarity is your priority and you value broader streaming flexibility from a single soundbar.
